One of our family traditions is to have fondue on New Years Eve. The recipe is very simple. And you can use your imagination to dip whatever you think would be wonderful covered in chocolate.

Chocolate Fondue

Ingredients:

12 oz chocolate chips or chocolate bars (this year we used a gigantic Hershey bar our friend’s gave us for Christmas)

2 tsp crisco shortening

fruits (we love berries, oranges, bananas, apples)

pretzels, soft or hard (we even sometimes dip our pretzel rolls)

angel food cake

whatever else you love slathered in chocolate

Directions:

Put chocolate in a microwave safe bowl. Put in microwave for 1 minute, then stir. Add shortening. Heat up for another 30 seconds, stir. Continue heating and stirring in 30 second intervals until your chocolate is nice and smooth. You can also do this in a double boiler on the stove.

Load your plate up with tasty food and dip it in the smooth chocolate to your heart’s content!
