Show Notes:

I had such a blast talking with Katie, Becky and Allie on our podcast!! I love how they are so positive and happy about girls growing up. Katie, Becky & Allie have the most amazing program for girls!! Hear in their words all about it:

“I Believe In Me is a life-cheering online adventure for tweens that gives real tools to create a happy middle school life! This time of life can be tricky and through weekly episodes, video tutorials and fun interactive online events we focus on promoting positive mindset and individual growth for each member. Girls can join ANY time and enjoy the program at their own pace. Choose from three member options to best fit your lifestyle!

“Our mission is to share tools and habits that will help girls gain confidence in their ‘Garden of Life’. We believe it’s the little things that matter most! Come join our happy adventure as we Grow and Bloom to our fullest potential!”

I love this mission!! I want to give you an even better picture of what their program teaches these girls. Here is a bit of what we talked about:

At the start of the program they want the girls to ask themselves, “Who are you?” They then encourage the girls to thing about the gifts they have that they would like to grow and share in their lives. They use garden imagery as they talk explain the different things they want the girls to learn about such as:

Your heart and mind working together are the soil of the garden. What are your dreams for your garden?

This then moves into, how are you spending your time? Are the friends you are hanging out with or the screens in your life making you wilt? Or are they bringing beauty into your garden by helping it grow?

The big aim is to help the girls be excited about who they are and where they want to go. They teach the girls how important it is to be spending their time in the right ways to get where they want to be. Routines are the roots of your garden. Developing good routines help you spend your time in the best ways.

“You are in control. It is your garden of life. You get to decide what plants you grow. You get to decide what you keep out and all the while you’re checking in with your head and your heart. Never put your happiness in someone else’s hands.” - Katie Parker

Friendship:

To have confidence there are 4 C’s to follow:

  1. Not comparing

  2. Not competing

  3. Not criticizing

  4. Not complaining

Bring the happy in!!

How do you pick good friends? Are they bringing light?

  • 3 Strikes You are Out

  • Not influencing in a good way

  • Not being kind - everyone needs grace, but if this is a pattern, distance yourself

  • Sponge - at this age they are taking everything in!

  • No gossip - is it kind? is it necessary? is it true?

There’s always someone who needs a friend! Allie tells a great story about when she was new at a school and a girl was kind to her when she was lonely and sad.

When you like who you are and someone says something, it’s not about you! They are hurting. Brush it right off!!

How to make a friend!! 4 Levels of being a Sunshine:

  1. Smile

  2. Smile - say hi or wave

  3. Introduce self

  4. Reaching beyond

Everyone is in a different place. Start at the sunshine level you are comfortable with.
