How to host a Hobbit Feast
One of the hardest things for our family during the COVID quarantine is not having anything fun to look forward to. With our calendars cleared of sports and other events, vacations cancelled, and no clear idea of when we can resume normal life, we have needed an added measure of fun.
Our family loves watching movies together. Movie nights quickly went from once or twice a week to nearly everyday. To make it all a bit more exciting (and so we could stop fighting over what movie to watch), we started doing weekly themes. Sometimes these themes include a game, activity, or special treat to go with the movie.
Last week our theme was the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. We decided it would be really fun to hold our own family hobbit feast. We piled on the veggies, had a spread of homemade bread (see below for that recipe) and cheese, made our Roasted Rosemary Potatoes, Baked BBQ Pork Ribs and a Strawberry Rhubarb pie for dessert. It was a really fun way to spend our Friday night!

Light Wheat Round Loaf Recipe
Ingredients:
3 3/4 cup white flour (if it's super humid outside, you may want to add a tablespoon or two)
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups water + 1/2 TBSP
2 eggs, separate (optional)
1/2 cup veg oil
1/2 cup sugar
2 1/2 tsp salt
*1 TBSP yeast
*just a little side note on the yeast. Red Star is my favorite. I buy it in bulk and keep it in the freezer. I've never had a problem with it getting old.

Directions:
For the dough, there's a couple ways you can do this. My favorite is using the bread maker on the dough cycle. I like doing this because I just dump everything in and come back to it after an hour and a half. It's also fine using a Bosch Mixer or a Kitchen Aid.
If you're using a bread maker- toss it all in, withholding 1 egg and 1/2 TBSP water, and put it on the dough cycle. If you're using a mixer, put everything in the mixer and let it work for 30 minutes. Then let it rise for one hour.
When the dough is done rising, make it into two large balls. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Whisk together the remaining egg and 1/2 TBSP of water and brush the loafs with the egg wash. You can make a couple decorative slits on the top of the loaf with a sharp knife if you desire. Let rise for 20-30 more minutes. Preheat oven to 350 F degrees. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
