Every year for Halloween we love to make festive foods to celebrate the season. We have a family spooky dinner during the month of October, where these cute Mummy Calzones made their first appearance! They are soft and cheesy and the best pizza pockets you will ever eat! They are the perfect star for your Halloween party at home, work or school!

Mummy Calzones

INGREDIENTS:

1 batch Helping of Happiness bread dough

1 cup marinara sauce (we love Rao’s)

2 cups colby jack cheeese

1 small package pepperoni

1 egg

1 tsp water

kosher salt

garlic powder

a few olives, sliced

Parchment paper

Directions:

Make bread dough (takes about an hour and 45 minutes- almost all of that time is the dough rising). Portion dough into 12 different sections.

Preheat oven to 375 F degrees.

Take one section of dough and roll it out into an oval shape.

Make slice marks along each side. Spoon 1/2- 1 TBSP marinara sauce onto dough section.

Sprinkle with 2 TBSP cheese. Place 3 pepperoni on top of the cheese. Criss cross dough across and wrap dough underneath if needed (see the video for a better explanation).

Lay your little dough mummy on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (if you don’t have parchment paper, spray sheet with cooking spray oil before placing your dough mummies on).

Whisk together egg plus 1 tsp water in a small bowl with a fork or a whisk to make an egg wash.

Brush egg wash onto your dough mummy. Sprinkle lightly with garlic powder and kosher salt.

Continue creating mummies with the rest of your dough sections. Put baking sheet, with all your mummies, into the over for 17-20 minutes, until mummies are a nice golden brown.

Once mummies are out of the oven, carefully place sliced olives on each of the mummies for their eyes.

Enjoy!! Recipe makes about a dozen mummy calzones.
