Naan Bread

ingredients:

1/2 cup warm water (about 100 F degrees)

1 tsp yeast

1 tsp sugar

1 3/4 cup flour

1 TBSP cornstarch

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 cup milk

1 tsp lemon juice

1/4 cup butter

2 TBSP parsley, finely chopped or dried

1/2 tsp garlic powder

kosher salt or sea salt for sprinkling on top

cooking spray, optional

directions:

  1. Pour 1/2 cup warm water, 1 tsp yeast, and 1 tsp sugar in a cup. Let sit while preparing the other ingredients.

  2. Pour 1/2 cup milk and 1 tsp lemon juice into a cup.

  3. Spray a large bowl with cooking spray. Then add 1 3/4 cup flour, 1 TBSP cornstarch, 1 tsp baking powder, and 1/4 tsp salt. Whisk together.

  4. Pour yeast mixture and milk mixture into the large bowl with the flour mixture. Stir together with a dough hook or a fork until combined. Scrape the sides with a spatula to make sure everything is mixed in.

  5. Let dough rest at least 30 minutes. I prefer leaving it for an hour or two.

  6. When you are ready to cook the dough, mix up 1/4 cup butter and 1/2 tsp garlic powder in a microwave safe bowl and head for 30 seconds in the microwave. Set aside.

  7. Heat a cast iron pan on high heat on your stove.

  8. Grab a handful of dough from the bowl, and roll it out (about 1/4 inch thick) on a surface sprinkled with flour.

  9. Place in hot cast iron skillet until it begins to bubble up. Flip it over and let it cook on the other side until golden brown.

  10. Immediately take off the heat and brush with butter mixture. Then sprinkle with chopped parsley and kosher salt. (I like to keep my hot naan in a tortilla warmer until we are ready to eat).

  11. Continue until the dough is all used up.

  12. Eat with our tasty Halal Bowls!!
